Gerri’s gift of a lifetime
A FORMER NURSE
and diabetes educator, Gerri
Charlesworth had a passion for her patients and their
access to care. So much so that, upon her death, her
entire estate was left for the beneft of Beaufort Memorial
through the BMH Foundation.
Charlesworth also had a passion for
the fner things in life, and her home
was full of antiques, collectibles,
original art, furniture and more.
So to make the most of her gift,
the BMH Foundation hosted an
upscale estate sale. Hundreds of
shoppers, including many BMH
employees, enjoyed a weekend of
treasure-hunting, generating thousands of dollars.
Tis lifelong collection is now spread throughout many
homes in the Lowcountry, being admired by others who
also appreciate them, many of whom also are pleased
to have a tangible reminder of their friend. And, even
better, the proceeds from the estate sale beneft a good
cause—the hospital’s endowment program, which ensures
the future fnancial sustainability of Beaufort Memorial.
Proceeds of the estate sale tallied $60,000. Combined with
the remainder of estate proceeds, the gift totals almost
$100,000. In recognition of this gift, the Foundation will list
Charlesworth in the Vista Society and establish a perma-
nent endowment fund in support of education.
Te BMH Foundation will forever remember
Charlesworth’s legacy. Hers was not an ordinary gift; it
was the gift of a lifetime.
