Emergency department
We’re in the final stretch of a year-and-a-half project to
renovate and expand our emergency department, almost
doubling its size. The George N. Pratt MD and Sarah
Meyer Pratt Emergency Center is scheduled to open of-
ficially later this year. At this point, workers are putting
the final touches on the facility, which will be a source of
pride for us all.
BMAC
The Beaufort Medical and Administrative Center
(BMAC) is coming along well and looks to be near-
ing completion sooner than we expected. The
80,364-square-foot facility, located on the corner of
Ribaut and Allison roads, will house a much larger
LifeFit Wellness Center on the f irst f loor. The second
f loor will be shelled in for future expansion, and the
third and fourth f loors will house a number of admin-
istrative offices currently located all over our campus
in rental or outdated buildings. Once the new building
is completed this fall, the old buildings will be razed
to give us more surface parking—something we all
need!
Lady’s Island Internal Medicine
We’ve purchased property on Lady’s Island next to Dairy
Queen to build a new office for Philip Cusumano, MD,
and Randy Dalbow, MD, with Lady’s Island Internal
Medicine. Plans have been drawn up, and we are com-
pleting the permit process. We hope to open the new
facility within the next year. In the meantime, we have to
remove a dying oak tree.
Bluffton Medical Services
We are working on plans to build and relocate to a larger
facility on 20 acres of land we purchased in Bluffton. We
are rapidly outgrowing our rented space in Westbury
Park and look forward to having room to grow in our
new location. However, we must submit an application
to the state to get permission to make this move, and
we expect the process to take us into 2013 before we can
break ground.
ICU expansion
Our emergency department project allowed us to shell
in space for future development to expand the current
8-bed intensive care unit (ICU) to 12 beds. We are seeing
the number of sicker patients grow and see a need for
more critical care beds. Over the next few years, we hope
to make this expansion. Having the shelled-in space
will minimize disruption in the emergency department,
which is below the ICU.
Updates to BMH
construction projects
We’re getting closer!
Hospital and City of Beaufort leaders worked together to
improve the safety and aesthetics of the intersection of
Ribaut Road and Allison Road, resulting in the plan shown
here. It will be in place with the opening of the new Beaufort
Medical and Administrative Center early next year.
