BEAUFORT MEMORIAL
Hospital’s Wound
Care Center was presented the Center of
Excellence Award, recognizing outstand-
ing performance for two years in a row.
Tis prestigious honor was presented by
the center’s partner, Diversifed Clinical
Services (DCS), in recognition of its high
patient satisfaction rates, exceptional
healing results, and outstanding clinical
outcomes during the past 24 months.
“Our partnership with Diversifed
brings our hospital’s Wound Care
Center enormous resources and exper-
tise, enabling us to meet the increasing
need for specialized wound care,” says
Karen Carroll, vice president for Clinical
Services. “We are thrilled to accept this
award, and proud to ofer this quality
center to our community.”
During the past two years, the Wound
Care Center has achieved success in treat-
ing and curing chronic or nonhealing
wounds and in providing excellent care to
more than 650 patients.
“We’re honored to receive this award,”
says program director Janet Singletary.
“It’s a privilege to be part of a great col-
laborative efort between the hospital and
Diversifed Clinical Services. Together,
we are able to heal patients in our
community, getting them get back to liv-
ing more productive, healthy lives.”
A local epidemic
Te Lowcountry is known for its high
incidence of diabetes, which often causes
chronic and nonhealing wounds—a seri-
ous disorder that can lead to amputation
of limbs and dramatically impaired qual-
ity of life.
The center generally admits wound
patients immediately, working with
referring physicians to determine the
most effective course of treatment. This
outpatient comprehensive service offers
advanced healing therapies often un-
available in primary care offices. These
services use an interdisciplinary ap-
proach to treatment involving a variety
of therapies and techniques, including
debridement, hyperbaric oxygen therapy,
dressing selection, special shoes, and
patient education.
